WWE Reportedly Scraps Crown Jewel Title Defense for Cody Rhodes

According to a report from BodySlam.Net, WWE has scrapped plans for the inaugural Crown Jewel Championships to be defended. The decision affects Men’s Champion Cody Rhodes and Women’s Champion Liv Morgan, with neither title expected to be on the line at the upcoming Crown Jewel premium live event in Australia.

Rhodes became the first-ever Men’s Crown Jewel Champion by defeating then-World Champion Gunther, while Morgan secured the women’s title against Nia Jax at the event in Saudi Arabia. This year’s Crown Jewel will take place in Australia, a departure from its traditional location. Morgan is currently out of action with an injury.

The status of the Crown Jewel Title comes as Rhodes’ immediate in-ring future is also uncertain. Following an attack by Drew McIntyre on SmackDown, Rhodes was not present on this week’s episode, and his availability for the upcoming Clash in Paris PLE is now in question.

The attack occurred on the August 8 episode of SmackDown. After a disqualification loss to Rhodes, McIntyre struck the Undisputed WWE Champion with the title belt before delivering a Claymore kick that sent him through the announce table. Rhodes was taken out of the arena on a stretcher.

During the August 15 edition of SmackDown, McIntyre addressed the incident in a promo, claiming Rhodes initiated the physicality. McIntyre stated that “everybody’s eyes are lying to them” and that he was only defending himself. He concluded with a warning to the champion: “If you provoke me, I will do very, very violent things. If you provoke me, I’m the real nightmare. Get well soon.”
