The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE’s agreement with TNA Wrestling gives it an option to buy the company. The deal is said to be part of a longer strategy to cut into AEW’s standing in the market.
Along with the purchase option, WWE holds a “right of first refusal,” meaning it can match any offer from another buyer. This gives WWE control over who could own TNA in the future. The report also mentions that former UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta has shown interest in buying the promotion.

The plan reportedly aims to push TNA into the number two spot in U.S. wrestling, reducing AEW’s leverage ahead of its next TV rights negotiations in 2027.
One part of the strategy being discussed is moving TNA’s weekly show from Thursday to Wednesday nights, putting it head-to-head with AEW Dynamite. While this could lower TNA’s own ratings, it’s seen as a direct way to chip into AEW’s audience.
The partnership has already taken shape, with WWE-linked talent appearing in key roles at events like tonight’s Emergence show. TNA is also said to be deep in talks for a new media deal with networks connected to WWE, including The CW. Such a move could create another Wednesday night battle and raise the stakes in wrestling’s TV competition.
