WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has named Bron Breakker as his choice for John Cena’s final opponent. Speaking on the “Busted Open” podcast, Ray stated that Cena’s retirement match should be used to elevate a younger talent who can benefit from the historic moment.
“Bron Breaker,” Ray said when asked for his pick. “I don’t want to see Seth Rollins in there with John. I don’t want to see Randy Orton in there with John. I don’t want to see Cody. I don’t want to see any of that stuff. I want to see somebody that can benefit from this match.”

Ray elaborated that the significance of the event is the moment itself, rather than the in-ring action. He believes the focus should be on the wrestler standing across the ring from Cena for his farewell in Boston. “The match is going to be insignificant,” Ray explained. “The moment is going to be when the bell rings and you are standing across the ring from John Cena in his last match in Boston. That’s the moment.”
While Ray advocates for Breakker, reports from mid-July indicated that Gunther is the planned opponent for Cena’s final match. The rumored booking would position Gunther as a dominant force, having also retired Goldberg earlier in the year.
Cena’s retirement match is expected to take place this December at Boston’s TD Garden, with December 27 being a rumored date. For his part, Cena has publicly stated he does not choose his opponents, a stance he reiterated at the Boston Fan Expo, maintaining that he will face whomever WWE puts in front of him.
