This action was necessary after the company’s previous registration for the name expired earlier in August. According to records, WWE failed to submit the required renewal paperwork in time, causing the trademark to lapse. The company had successfully maintained its ownership of ‘Dash Wilder,’ the former WWE name of Harwood’s tag team partner, Cash Wheeler, after a successful refiling in 2024.

The ‘Scott Dawson’ application was part of a series of intellectual property filings by WWE. On August 15, the company also submitted a new application for ‘Shawn Spears.’ WWE’s previous attempt to trademark the name in March 2024 was rejected in February 2025, as the registration is currently owned by Spears himself.

Additionally, WWE filed to trademark ‘Ridge Holland’ and ‘Slapjack’ on August 14. A new application was also issued for ‘WWE ThunderDome’ after a previous filing for the term was abandoned in October 2024.
