WWE Confirms Dominik Mysterio vs. El Hijo del Vikingo at Worlds Collide

WWE has officially confirmed that Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio will challenge El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship. The title match is scheduled for the upcoming WWE x AAA Worlds Collide premium live event in Las Vegas on September 12.

The announcement was made through WWE’s official social media channels, following a challenge issued by Mysterio after a controversial loss at Triplemanía XXXIII. A promotional video included with the announcement shows Mysterio backstage blaming AJ Styles for his recent defeat and being mocked by his father, Rey Mysterio.

The title match was set in motion after the main event of Triplemanía XXXIII, where El Hijo del Vikingo defended his AAA Mega Championship in a four-way match against Mysterio, Dragon Lee, and El Grande Americano. During the final moments, Mysterio hit a Frog Splash on Dragon Lee and appeared to have the match won. However, a masked AJ Styles interfered, pulling the referee out of the ring and hitting Mysterio with a Styles Clash. This allowed Vikingo to recover and secure the victory by pinning Mysterio.

In a post-match segment, Mysterio expressed his frustration with the interference. “I am very angry that this old man (AJ Styles) followed me all the way to Mexico City,” he stated before turning his attention to Vikingo and issuing the challenge for a one-on-one rematch.

The rivalry also carries a unique crowd dynamic. At Triplemanía XXXIII in Mexico City, the audience cheered for Dominik Mysterio while the reigning champion, El Hijo del Vikingo, received boos. The Worlds Collide event is scheduled for Mexican Independence Day weekend in Las Vegas, which coincides with a major boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, anticipating a large Mexican and Mexican-American audience.
