Zilla Fatu isn’t in a hurry to follow his family into WWE. The son of the late Umaga is building his career on the independent scene, and he believes there’s still work to do before making the move to the main roster.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Fatu addressed the constant speculation about joining The Bloodline. While WWE remains his end goal, he hasn’t had a tryout yet and is focused on improving.
“Yes, the goal is to join my family in WWE — I would love to. I hope I’m on WWE’s radar. I’ve literally just been training, man, just being patient. I’m not in any rush to go anywhere. I have a long way to go, I’m still growing and trying to figure out who I am in the business. It’s gonna take time and repetition, but I think I’m right where I’m supposed to be right now.”
When asked if he was ready for the spotlight of WWE’s top storyline, Fatu didn’t hesitate.
“No. I thought I was, but no,” he admitted. “I still have more time to grow. I’m still green, so I’ve got a long way to go, man. I think when the timing is right and when I feel ready — just like when I was in prison and I was tired and needed to change my life — I’m waiting for that feeling.”
His comments come during a rough stretch. In the past two weeks, he lost the HOG Crown Jewel Championship and the Reality of Wrestling Championship. He’s also faced criticism from within his own family after his uncle Rikishi questioned his choice to use face paint similar to his father during his recent TNA debut.
These setbacks may be shaping his patient mindset. Fatu plans to move forward only when he feels ready, trusting his growth over the quick appeal of a WWE contract.
“When that feeling pops up, that’s when I’m gonna start pushing for it,” he said. “But right now, I’m being patient, just waiting, grinding, enjoying the process, and learning as I go. I’m working like WWE’s never had their eyes on me, and I think with that mindset, I’ll get there.”
