AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné issued a direct challenge to WWE superstar Bayley during a joint Instagram Live session on August 22, proposing a match for one of Moné’s eight championship titles. The conversation occurred as the two were celebrating the anniversary of their acclaimed match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015.
The exchange began after Moné, who currently holds titles from multiple promotions, mentioned she was pursuing a ninth championship. Bayley responded, “I just want one.” Moné immediately followed up with a challenge, stating, “Come face me then, dude. Give the people what they want, one more match.”

When Bayley replied that a potential match “depends what title is on the line,” Moné noted, “I have a lot.” The two briefly discussed a timeline, with Moné dismissing the idea of waiting another ten years for the encounter.
This interaction marks the latest public discussion of a potential match between the two, which would be their first one-on-one encounter in 54 months. Their historic rivalry includes the first-ever 30-minute Ironwoman match in WWE history at NXT TakeOver: Respect, which was named Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s “Match of the Year” in 2015. They later teamed up as the “Boss ‘n Hug Connection,” becoming the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Their last significant in-ring appearance together was in the 2021 Women’s Royal Rumble match.
A match between them would require a crossover between AEW and WWE. Moné is scheduled to defend her AEW TBS Championship in a four-way match at Forbidden Door this weekend. Bayley most recently competed for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship, currently held by Becky Lynch.
