CM Punk’s current WWE run has kept him in the main event picture, highlighted by an immediate World Heavyweight Championship Match at Clash in Paris after losing the title at SummerSlam. This stretch, filled with high-profile matches and layered storylines, has drawn attention from fellow wrestlers, including former World Champion EC3.

Speaking on The Wrestling Outlaws, EC3 shared his take on Punk’s character shift. He argued that The Second City Saint is no longer the anti-establishment figure he once was, instead taking a practical approach as his career enters its later years.
“After AEW, now coming back older, I think he’s given up the edge…like he’s not fighting against the system as much anymore, because he’s given up because ‘This is just how they do things and I don’t like it’…and to your point, a rebel who never wins just doesn’t make sense and it never has, but he’s given up and isn’t steaming about it and he works hard and works with his peers and do the best he can. That’s the way I’d look at it. I think he’s a fantastic worker and promo, and he’s very authentic.”
That view matches how Punk is currently booked. He’s now a central piece of an ongoing storyline involving Seth Rollins, LA Knight, and Jey Uso. Instead of pushing back against creative direction, Punk works within it, advancing a “karmic retribution” arc tied to his own history.
