Drew McIntyre appeared on the August 15th episode of WWE SmackDown to address his recent assault on Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. During his promo, McIntyre accused WWE of hiding Rhodes’ medical report and claimed he was provoked into the attack. He stated that without the championship and his “story,” Cody is a “nobody” and that he, McIntyre, is “the real nightmare.”
The segment served as McIntyre’s official explanation for his actions on the previous week’s broadcast, where he drove Rhodes through the announce table with a Claymore Kick after a tag team match.

McIntyre expanded on his motivations, dismissing Rhodes’ need for fan approval as a weakness he himself outgrew five years ago. He declared his own intentions clearly, stating his focus is on the WWE Championship because he has earned and deserves it. “Who is Cody without his story and without his title? He’s nobody and he knows it!” McIntyre stated.
He concluded his address by rejecting the label of a “bad guy,” instead framing himself as someone who reacts with violence when pushed. “I didn’t attack Cody, Cody attacked me,” McIntyre said, solidifying the justification for his brutal actions.
