Alberto Del Rio Reportedly Set To Return To WWE

During Triplemania XXXIII, Rey Mysterio responded directly to crowd chants for Alberto Del Rio, stating he would “bring him” back to the promotion.

Alberto Del Rio Reportedly Set To Return To WWE

Rey Mysterio addressed chants for Alberto Del Rio during the AAA Triplemania XXXIII broadcast, telling the Mexico City crowd, “I’ll bring him, wait on me.” The comment was made while Mysterio was in the ring for the induction of Konnan into the AAA Hall of Fame.

The chants for “Alberto!” were audible at multiple points during the show, particularly during segments involving the current AAA Mega Champion, El Hijo del Vikingo. Despite Vikingo being positioned as the promotion’s top babyface, he has consistently been booed by AAA audiences, who conversely cheered for Del Rio during their recent rivalry while he was working as a heel.

Mysterio’s statement comes just one month after Del Rio lost a “Loser Leaves AAA” match to El Mesias, which was believed to have concluded his run with the company.

Following WWE’s acquisition of AAA in April 2025, the company has seemingly distanced itself from Del Rio. When he dropped the AAA Mega Championship to Vikingo in June, footage of the title change shown on Raw was edited to focus tightly on Vikingo, with no mention of Del Rio.

According to reports from May 2025, Del Rio was signed to a new WWE contract as part of the AAA talent acquisitions. However, it was specified that the deal was for him to perform for the AAA brand, and he was not expected to appear on WWE programming such as Raw or SmackDown.

Despite a reported lack of interest from WWE and TKO Group Holdings in a main roster role for Del Rio, he is said to have the support of several Latino wrestlers in the locker room, including Rey Mysterio, Andrade, Angel, and Berto.

Del Rio has a history of publicly criticizing WWE and Triple H. He has also faced legal issues, including a 2020 arrest that led to charges of aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault, which were ultimately dropped.

Also at Triplemania XXXIII, El Hijo del Vikingo retained the AAA Mega Championship in a four-way match against El Grande Americano, Dragon Lee, and Dominik Mysterio. Dominik was pinned following interference from AJ Styles.
