The Bray Wyatt tribute quest in WWE 2K25 was built from unused material originally planned for an earlier game, according to the project’s lead writer. Its release was postponed following Wyatt’s passing.
Speaking on the Not Sam Wrestling podcast, Andrea Listenberger, Lead Writer and Senior Narrative Designer for the game, said the storyline’s foundation came from unused audio and cutscenes created for WWE 2K22. That content was removed after Wyatt’s release from WWE in 2021.

Listenberger said the team later discussed reworking the material for WWE 2K24, with plans to add new audio. Wyatt’s death changed those plans, as the developers decided it wouldn’t be right to include the quest in MyRise mode at that time.
“The big inspiration for this quest in general was a lot of the vignettes they did on WWE TV. I started thinking about the audio recordings and cutscenes we had from WWE 2K22. We had talked about reusing them when Bray Wyatt was still alive, because the reason they were originally cut was that he had just been released from the company.”
“We originally had plans to repurpose them for 2K24 with some additional audio content. But then, with the timing of his passing, that didn’t work out. It wasn’t right, and it didn’t make sense for us to just put a Bray Wyatt quest in MyRise. It wouldn’t have felt good, even if we had all the audio recordings completed.”
The final version debuted in WWE 2K25’s Island mode on July 11. It includes complete video segments and Wyatt’s own dialogue, giving players a full storyline that also serves as a tribute to his career.
