WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio has confirmed that the rib injury tied to his feud with AJ Styles was real. Speaking on the Club 520 Podcast, he explained that while TV suggested he was faking it, the injury was genuine.
The issue was first revealed before Night of Champions in June, forcing him to pull out of a planned title defense against Styles. WWE then worked the situation into their SummerSlam 2025 build, with Mysterio leaning on a doctor’s note to avoid physical contact. He shared details of what happened.

“I dislocated my two lower ribs and they were digging into my cartilage. That was why I was actually hurt, everyone thought I was faking it, but I was actually hurt.”
At SummerSlam, Mysterio still managed to beat Styles, helped by outside interference. The rivalry has carried on since, including a tag match on the August 11 episode of RAW where Mysterio pinned Styles after using a foreign object. The feud appears headed toward a title rematch at WWE Clash in Paris on August 31.
Away from this storyline, Mysterio is preparing for a shot at the AAA Mega Championship. He will face El Hijo Del Vikingo, Dragon Lee, and El Grande Americano in a fatal four-way at TripleMania XXXIII on August 16.
