CMLL Reportedly Had to Arrange a Getaway Car for a AEW Star in Mexico

Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) reportedly had a getaway car prepared for MJF following a recent event in Mexico, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The precaution was taken after a segment where MJF spat on Místico’s mask and covered him with an American flag. The report also notes that a fan allegedly attempted to attack MJF at a hotel after his appearance at the AEW Grand Slam: Mexico event.

The incident occurred after MJF successfully defended his CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship against Zandokan Jr. Following the match, Místico appeared and challenged MJF to a title match for September 19, which the AEW wrestler accepted.

The upcoming bout, set to main event the 92nd CMLL Anniversary at Arena México, is a high-stakes Lucha de Apuestas, with Místico wagering his mask against MJF’s championship. After accepting the challenge on August 15, MJF attacked Místico, unmasking him for a second time and delivering a Tombstone Piledriver.

MJF captured the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship on August 1, defeating Averno at a Viernes Espectacular event. The victory, secured with a low blow while the referee was distracted, ended Averno’s 491-day reign.

The feud between the two escalated significantly at the AEW Grand Slam: Mexico on June 18, where MJF unmasked the legendary luchador for the first time following a disqualification loss. MJF has also targeted Místico during Ring of Honor television tapings, attacking him and declaring his intention to take everything from him.
