Right after the match, AEW President Tony Khan addressed the crowd to confirm Austin’s full-time signing. This marks a major step for the 28-year-old, who wrapped up a six-year run with TNA in May 2025.
In TNA, Austin held the X-Division Championship three times and captured the tag team titles three times alongside Chris Bey. Opening his AEW run against a name like Ricochet immediately places him as a notable addition to the roster.
Speculation on his direction in AEW grew when Austin Gunn hinted at a possible link to the Bang Bang Gang. Austin’s past with Bullet Club during his NJPW stint could set the stage for a reunion with Chris Bey and a possible expansion of the faction in AEW.
