Fletcher had called on New Japan Pro-Wrestling to send him its top talent for a title defense. That challenge came to fruition during an eight-man tag on Dynamite, where Fletcher teamed with The Young Bucks and Josh Alexander against Brody King, Tomohiro Ishii, Hologram, and a mystery partner.

The mystery partner turned out to be Takahashi. He sealed the win for his side by pinning Alexander, and the TNT Championship match was made official shortly after. The bout will take place in London as part of Forbidden Door.
