While he emphasized that his full-time days are over, Chioda left room for select appearances. He explained that he may still referee “a match or two here and there” but intends to “pick and choose” those opportunities carefully. As examples, he pointed to working Ric Flair’s final match in 2022 and a recent Fight Factory bout, experiences he described as special exceptions rather than a return to regular work.

Chioda’s career was defined by his decades with WWE, beginning in 1989. He refereed countless high-profile matches, including several WrestleMania main events, becoming one of the most familiar figures in the company’s history. His run came to an end in April 2020 when he was released during pandemic-related budget cuts, just a month after signing a new deal.

Following his departure, Chioda made a brief stop in AEW starting in August 2020, where he officiated matches such as Cody Rhodes’ TNT Championship defense and the final of the men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

Now stepping away from the ring full-time, Chioda has shifted focus to passing on his experience. Based in Orlando, he is conducting seminars and training sessions for aspiring referees. He also stays connected to fans through convention appearances and his podcast “Monday Mailbag with Mike Chioda” alongside Conrad Thompson.
