Former AEW Champion Returns After Three-Month Absence

The former AEW Women’s World Champion returned from injury in her home country, saving Queen Aminata and immediately reigniting her feud with Thekla.

Former AEW Champion Returns After Three-Month Absence

Jamie Hayter made her surprise return to All Elite Wrestling at Forbidden Door London, confronting Thekla and restarting their suspended feud. The return occurred after a brawl from the “Zero Hour” pre-show between Thekla and Queen Aminata carried over into the O2 Arena. As Thekla and her Triangle Madness allies gained a three-on-one advantage, Hayter’s music hit, bringing the London crowd to its feet as she charged the ring to make the save for Aminata.

The appearance marks Hayter’s first since May, when a televised attack by a debuting Thekla wrote her off television. AEW President Tony Khan later confirmed the former AEW Women’s World Champion was sidelined with an undisclosed injury. Her recovery period extended longer than initially expected, and while Hayter had expressed a desire to be cleared for the UK-based show, reports leading into the weekend stated she was still not medically cleared to compete.

This recent absence was a cause for concern, as the 30-year-old had only previously returned from a 15-month recovery from significant back and spine issues. Her last televised match was a loss to Mercedes Moné in the Owen Hart Cup finals at Double or Nothing. Hayter’s subsequent time away also forced creative changes for last month’s All In: Texas, where she was originally slated to be involved in the build-up for Thekla.

With her return in London, Hayter is now positioned to continue the program with Thekla that was abruptly halted by her injury three months ago.
