Recent reports indicate that prominent backstage figures, including Roman Reigns, are lobbying for a WWE return for former four-time World Champion Alberto Del Rio. The push for a second chance has gained more public support, with WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long recently suggesting a methodical approach to bringing the star back into the fold.

During a recent episode of The Wrestling Time Machine, Long shared his positive experiences working with Del Rio and advocated for a patient booking strategy to build anticipation for a potential comeback and maximize its impact. “Yeah, he certainly did a great job. I had the opportunity of working with him. Nice guy,” Long stated. He further explained the benefit of a slow build, saying, “Maybe not rush it, make the people kind of want it a little bit. So, maybe holding out on him a little bit, that might be a good thing. So, when if they decide and he does come, it may mean just a lot more.”
Long’s comments follow a recent interview on Lucha Libre Online where Hugo Savinovich detailed the extent of the backstage support for Del Rio. According to Savinovich, major stars such as Roman Reigns, Rey Mysterio, and The Undertaker have been advocating for the company to bring Del Rio back, citing their strong personal relationships and a belief that he warrants another opportunity.
Alberto Del Rio has not competed in a WWE ring since August 2016, when his last match was against John Cena on an episode of SmackDown. Following his departure, the four-time World Champion went on to work for various promotions on the independent circuit, including notable runs in TNA Wrestling and AAA.
