Dominik Mysterio didn’t hold back when asked about CM Punk’s World Heavyweight Championship win at SummerSlam, saying straight out that Punk didn’t earn it. The Intercontinental Champion’s comments are the latest in a series of digs the two have exchanged in recent months.
The title change happened on Night One of SummerSlam, when Punk beat Gunther to win his first WWE world title in over ten years. His reign ended almost immediately, as Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and pinned Punk after the grueling match.

Speaking on Casual Conversations with The Classic, Mysterio said he watched the show as a fan and wasn’t happy with the result.
“I was a fan, you know, watching SummerSlam Night One, and I was extremely sad and depressed when I saw that he had won the title. You know, just not because he [CM Punk] had won it, just because, you know, I don’t think he deserves it. I don’t think he deserves to be in that spot. But at the end of the day, I was smiling from ear to ear when I saw Seth Freakin’ Rollins,” Mysterio said.
Mysterio’s reaction had personal meaning. Rollins was his first opponent in WWE, and in lucha tradition, that makes him a padrino—a godfather figure in the ring. That history made Rollins’ surprise moment even more special.
“In lucha tradition and lucha culture, when you debut with someone, you call them a padrino, right? So in terms of lucha terms, Seth is my godfather when it comes to this,” Mysterio explained. “I was so excited when I heard his music, but then he came out in crutches, so I was like, ‘Damn! Now this is just like a teaser.’ He drops the crutches. I was so stoked, smiling from ear to ear, screaming, I was just happy. Other than Night Two at SummerSlam, that was my favorite moment of the weekend by far.”
Since Punk’s return at Survivor Series, he and Mysterio have taken frequent shots at each other in interviews and online, making this latest jab part of an ongoing feud.
